Pakistan’s first ever winner of World Cup cricket was 19 year old Shahid Afridi. Born in Lahore, Afridi’s journey to cricketing fame took a quick turn in the 1980s. In 1983, while working as a coal trader in Karachi, he created the Pepsi league with his friend. The league was very successful with teams winning prizes like bikes and motorcycles, mobile phones, pens and much more. Afridi then decided to quit his job and play cricket full time. In 1989, he made his debut for Pakistan’s domestic team, the National Bank of Pakistan. This was the start of an amazing cricketing career. As he became more famous, Afridi was persuaded by none other than the country’s cricket legends to play cricket for Pakistan. In 1990, he played his first World Cup match against Sri Lanka. Afridi bowled four wickets and scored 22 runs but Pakistan lost the match by 92 runs. He showed his talent in the 1996 World Cup which Pakistan won after a long time.

After being part of Pakistan’s highly successful team in the 1996 World Cup, Afridi retired from international cricket in 2000. Even after quitting the cricket, Afridi continued playing club cricket for Karachi’s DCW. He also joined the movie business and acted in some movies. Even after retiring from cricket, Afridi did not give up on his cricketing career. In 2004, he came back to play for the Pakistan Cricket Team. It was during his second comeback that Afridi won the World Cup in 2011. He has also become a global star. He has starred in various films and the most recent one was the Shahid Afridi Box Office thriller No Entry. While all of Afridi’s cricketing achievements have made him famous, there are so many more that he has achieved in his cricketing career.
